Thinking about moving to FlyGuysNLies Mobile from TroutRoutes, onWater or FishAngler? Here’s what you can bring with you, what you can’t, and how to be set up before your next trip.
First, the honest part: most apps don’t document a way to take your log with you
We checked each app’s own App Store listing, pricing page and help docs on September 23, 2026. None of them documents a way to export your fishing log to a file you can take somewhere else:
| Coming from | Can you export your log? | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| TroutRoutes | No — its FAQ says there are no current plans for a data export | Start logging new trips in FlyGuysNLies |
| onWater | Not documented in its help center | Ask onWater support whether they can send your journal as a spreadsheet (CSV) |
| FishAngler | Waypoints only (GPX file) — not your catch log | Its privacy policy lets you request a copy of your data by email; ask for it as a CSV |
| A spreadsheet or notebook | You already own it | Save it as a CSV and import it — see below |
Apps change. If your app has added an export since we checked, let us know and we’ll update this page.
FlyGuysNLies works the other way: you can export your log any time as CSV, JSON or PDF, free.
Bring a CSV log with you — free
If your trips live in a spreadsheet (or you get a CSV from your old app), FlyGuysNLies can import it. No subscription needed.
- Save your log as a CSV file. Any spreadsheet app can do this. One row per trip works best.
- Open the Log Book tab and choose Import Logs from the menu, then pick your file.
- Match your columns. The app guesses which column is the date, river, flies and notes; you confirm or fix it.
- Review rivers and flies. River names are fuzzy-matched to our river database and fly names to our fly library, and you confirm each match. Flies that don’t match are kept as you wrote them.
- Preview and import. Duplicates (same date and place) are skipped, so it’s safe to import twice.
Your first ten minutes
Even with no history to bring, you can have FlyGuysNLies working for you before your next trip:
- Favorite your home rivers. Up to three free. Each one gets a live river verdict — Excellent to Unfishable — scored against that river’s own wading and floating flows.
- Turn on a hatch alert. Pick the hatch you care about on a favorite river and get a push when water temperature says it’s starting.
- Set a flow alert. Know when your river drops into shape instead of checking gauges every morning.
- Open a Trip Brief the night before: verdict, flows, likely hatches, flies, regs and weather on one screen.
- Download the offline map pack for our five states — free — before you lose signal in the canyon.
What you get when you switch
- River Verdicts for Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Utah and New Mexico rivers, scored against each river’s own wading and floating flows.
- Fishing Forecast — each upcoming day rated, with the hatches to expect.
- Hatch Alerts and Smart Alerts for the moment your river turns on.
- Fly & Rig Picks for today’s conditions, and a Trip Brief that puts it all on one screen.
- $14.99 a year for Premium, with many features free.
