Green River Basin

The Green River Basin is home to arguably the finest tailwater trout fishery in the American West. Below Flaming Gorge Dam in Utah, Sections A, B, and C draw fly anglers from around the world — Section A alone holds over 10,000 trout per mile. The basin also includes Warren Bridge and Fontenelle in Wyoming, offering diverse water from red-rock desert canyons to high-alpine meadows.

Key Sections

• Segment A (Red Canyon): The 7-mile stretch immediately below the dam. Famous for its crystal clear water, towering red canyon walls, and fish densities exceeding 10,000 trout per mile.
• Segment B: More secluded than A, offering diverse water types and excellent camping.
• Segment C: flows out into the wild desert environment of Browns Park. Large Brown Trout prowl here.
• Seedskadee NWR: In Wyoming, below Fontenelle Dam, this refuge offers solitude and massive fish in a high desert setting.

The CICADA Hatch

While the Green has epic BWO and Midge hatches, the Cicada event (typically May/June) is legendary. Massive terrestrial insects crash onto the water, bringing trophy Browns and Rainbows to the surface for explosive eaters. It is one of the most exciting dry fly events in the Rockies.
