Western Montana

Western Montana is home to some of Montana's most legendary trout streams. The Bitterroot River, Clark Fork, and Blackfoot River are legendary fishery, offering excellent trout populations, excellent hatches, and varied fishing opportunities.

The Bitterroot River The Bitterroot River near Darby offers excellent freestone fly fishing in one of Montana's most beautiful mountain valleys, flowing through the heart of the Bitterroot Valley with the Bitterroot Mountains providing a spectacular backdrop. The Clark Fork The Clark Fork River near Missoula represents the lower section of this excellent freestone fishery, flowing through the heart of Montana's second-largest city while maintaining excellent trout populations and diverse fishing opportunities. The Blackfoot River The Blackfoot River near Bonner is one of Montana's most iconic fly fishing destinations, immortalized in Norman Maclean's "A River Runs Through It" and the subsequent film. The Rock Creek Rock Creek near Clinton offers excellent freestone fly fishing in one of Montana's most accessible and productive mountain streams, flowing through the heart of the Lolo National Forest with over 30 miles of public access.
