Fly Fishing Green River - Warren Bridge

Overview

The Green River around Warren Bridge flows through open sagebrush valleys north of Daniel, with the Wind River Mountains rising to the east. Cobbled riffles, long glides, boulder pockets and cutbanks create varied holding water for brown and rainbow trout. The broad valley setting contrasts with the smaller current seams and deeper lies within the channel.

Freestone Presentations

Work a nymph through the softer edge of a riffle or the seam beside a boulder. A dry fly can cover a rising fish in a glide, while a streamer offers another way to search a deeper cutbank. Adjust the cast and drift to that piece of water rather than using the same presentation throughout the section.

Spring blue-winged olives and midges provide small-fly choices. Caddis, pale morning duns and golden stoneflies add summer options, followed by grasshoppers, ants and beetles along the sagebrush-country banks. Fall blue-winged olives offer another dry-fly choice, with streamers available for fish feeding below the surface.

Snowmelt influences depth, clarity and insect activity on this freestone river. Watch the current and feeding behavior before choosing a fly, and change nymph weight or depth between runs as needed.

Access

Warren Bridge Public Access Area parking areas 8 and 9 provide entry to the west bank through a marked fishing easement. Reach them from BLM Road 5201 using the signed two-track loop; keep vehicles on the designated road and parking areas. The Wyoming Game and Fish site describes the easement.
