Fly Fishing Price River - Lower Fish Creek

Overview

Lower Fish Creek carries water from Scofield Reservoir through a narrow canyon toward Colton. Riffles, pools and quieter glides give this small stream a varied character, with willows and grassy banks along parts of the channel.

Brown trout are a focus of the fishery, with rainbow and cutthroat trout also present. Fishing here calls for reading individual runs and pools and placing a careful drift close to cover.

Presentations and seasonal tactics

Pause before approaching a pool and watch for feeding fish. Keep casts deliberate, reduce line on the water and work a run methodically rather than covering it with repeated drifts. In clearer water, a quiet approach and careful presentation matter more than hurried changes of fly.

Hoppers and ants are useful patterns to try along grassy banks in late summer and early fall. Place the fly near the bank and give it a drift before moving to the next piece of cover. When fish are rising, watch where they feed and adjust the drift to that lane; when they are below the surface, nymphs can cover the riffles and pool entrances.
