Fly Fishing North Platte River - Miracle Mile

The North Platte’s Miracle Mile runs between Kortes Dam and Pathfinder Reservoir in a remote Wyoming canyon setting. Deep runs, broad riffles and canyon pools create varied trout holding water. Look for the slower seam beside a riffle or the transition into a deeper pool when choosing where to begin a drift.

This tailwater holds rainbow and brown trout, with cutthroat trout, cutbows and mountain whitefish adding to the diversity. Releases from Kortes Dam influence the current. Adjust nymph depth and weight to the run you are fishing, and work slower holding water when the river rises. Key hatches include midges, Blue-Winged Olives, and Caddis in spring and fall, followed by terrestrials and Tricos in summer. In winter, try streamers and nymphs in slower, deeper holding water where conditions permit.
